1. Move the vehicle out of the traveled roadway, if it is clear, safe and legal. (In some states it is against the law to move a vehicle from the place the accident occurred. Check the ordinance in your state).
2. Turn off the ignitions of the cars involved.
3. Make a first aid check of all the people involved.
4. Call the police and emergency services.
5. Gather the names of all the people involved, including witnesses.
6. Exchange insurance information and do not discuss "fault" or make statements to anyone other than the police.
7. Get a copy of the police report from your local precinct and give it to your insurance company.
